Belize is a country that loves to celebrate. After all, who would not appreciate some good food, drinks and company once a while, not to mention all the fun festivities and activities planned for the day? If you are thinking of traveling to Belize on your next vacation, you have to attend at least a festival celebrated in this lively country. Their celebrations include the Caribbean nation’s most energetic country, along with New Year’s Day and the festive Christmas Week.
Fiesta de Carnaval — Otherwise known as the Belize Festival, this festivity is celebrated in February, the week before Lent begins. During this time, the most boisterous celebrations erupt in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye so do not be surprised if you emerge from the fray all covered in flour.
Baron Bliss Day — Celebrated during March in honor of Sir Henry Edward Ernest Victor Bliss, this Belize holiday features a sailboat rate along with kiting competitions and horse races.
Easter Week — In Belize, Easter is celebrated for a whole week. During this holiday, expect nationwide shutdowns as the Belizeans attend religious services and take on family trips. The highlight of the Easter Week is a cross-country cycling expedition.
Belize Lobster Festivals — During this festival held in June and July, you can expect lobster served in every form imaginable with kabobs and tacos fresh out of the shell. There is also music, dancing and drinks all throughout. Lobster season starts in mid-June with the San Pedro Lobsterfest, the newest addition the Belize Lobsterfest roster. Then there is the Placencia Lobersterfest in south during the last weekend of June. Last is the Caye Caulker Lobsterfest early in July. This is q party that you cannot miss.
Benque Viejo Del Carmen Fiesta — This festivity is held in mid-July in the Guatemala/Belize border town of Benque Viejo Del Carmen. The fiesta includes a lively carnival along with many more attractions.
San Pedro International Costa Maya Festival — Formerly known as the Sea and Air Festival, the Costa Maya Festival in San Pedro is a five-day Belize event that units cuisine, dance, music and other cultural celebrations from the five “Mundo Maya” countries which includes Belize, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador. This is held in early August.
St. George’s Caye Day — Celebrated during the 10th of September, St. George’s Day honors Belize’s 1798 defeat of the Spaniards in battle. The whole country celebrates this day with street festivals and with a reenactment of the battle at the site where it was held.
Belize Independence Day — During September 21, the country honors its independence with colorful parties, processions and parades.
